Granny Fi's Toy Cupboard has been the dream of artist and author Fiona McDonald for most of her life. She turned the enclosed front verandah of her house in Katoomba into a sewing room and the kitchen became a room for giving doll making workshops. In the mid 90s Fiona was becoming quite famous, winning international doll making awards as well as being featured on the TV shows Healthy, Wealthy and Wise and the Morning Show.
In early 2013 things changed. Now living in Armidale, and with the help of her daughter and dragon apprentice, Beattie, they opened the doors to the very first Granny Fi's Toy Cupboard. It is now a full-family business, Beattie now owns and runs the shop, but they all (including Beattie's husband David) make the toys. |
